The Department registers the names of Ex-servicemen and sponsors their names to the various departments against 13% reserved vacancies for ex-servicemen and is responsible for checking the rosters. Deficiencies in matters of reservation for ex-servicemen are brought to the notice of the Government.
Provides cash awards/land, annuity and other concessions' to the gallantry award winners.
Grants Financial Assistance to the families of the defence personnel killed/disabled.
Sanctions War Jagir to the families whose son/sons serve in defence forces of the country.
Provides Financial Assistance to ex-servicemen suffering from chronic diseases like T.B., Cancer and major surgeries etc out of the Punjab Amalgamated Fund.
The Department administers the Punjab Amalgamated Fund and disburses about Rs.45.00 lacs (approximately) each year for the welfare of Ex-servicemen.
Provides grants to ex-servicemen for the marriage of their daughters.
Organises Flag Day Fund collection and helps the ex-servicemen with aid.
Organises rallies for ex-servicemen, with a view to listen to their grievances and to educate them about new facilities given to them.
Assists ex-servicemen in resolving their pensionary or other service matters and to look after the war widows and wards of the battle casualties.
Provides coaching facility, for brilliant wards of the ex-servicemen for appearing in various competitive tests by PPSC and Military authorities etc. Besides, coaching facility is also made available to the wards of ex-servicemen for admission to Medical and Engineering Colleges

Provides Basic Computer Education to Ex-servicemen, Widows and their wards for their gainful employment through the Sainik Vocational Training Centres being run at District Level and HQ at Chandigarh.
