FUNCTIONING OF SAINIK REST HOUSES/SAINIK SADAN
IN THE STATE OF PUNJAB
To provide maximum facilities to the Serving Soldiers, Ex-Servicemen and their families, who visit the District Headquarters for redressal of their personal problems and to provide residential facilities to the Serving Soldiers, while in transit, the Rajya Sainik Board has one Sainik Rest House in each District.
The Rajya Sainik Board proposed to construct multi purpose complexes i.e. Sainik Sadan in each of the District Headquarter to provide maximum facilities like District Sainik Welfare Office, DPDO, CSD Canteen, Polyclinic, Vocational Training Center, Community Center for personnel below Officers rank and extension counter of bank under one roof.
During the 11th Five Year Plan (2007-12), it is proposed to construct Sainik Rest House in newly created districts Fatehgarh Sahib, Nawanshahar, Mohali, Mansa, Moga and Tarn Taran.
Pathankot being a big Military Cantonment and tri-junction of three states namely Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and J&K. 167 Military Hospital at Pathankot is attending to 2500 ex-servicemen every month on an average. At present Sainik Rest House is situated at Gurdaspur which is far away from Pathankot. Ex-servicemen, their families and serving soldiers come to Pathankot from far flung and remote areas. Some of them need to stay a night or two before final diagnosis and face considerable difficulties for their stay at Pathankot. Besides this a large number of ex-servicemen, widows and their dependent pensioners visit Defence Pension Disbursing Office (DPDO) and CSD Canteen located at Pathankot. As such there is a need to construct Sainik Rest House at this place for providing maximum residential facilities. Keeping in view the long outstanding demand of ex-servicemen and difficulties faced by the ex-servicemen it is proposed to construct Sainik Rest House at Pathankot also during the 11th Five Year Annual Plan (2007-12).
